Planning a family theatre trip to London

A little planning around the performance time, venue and age guidance can make a family theatre visit much easier.

Check age guidance before booking

A production may recommend a minimum age, restrict very young children or require every attendee to hold a ticket. Read the event and booking information for the exact performance before paying.

Age guidance also helps set expectations about story, sound, lighting and running time, even when it is not a formal admission rule.

Pick a workable performance time

Matinees can fit more easily around travel and bedtimes, while evening performances may offer a wider choice on some dates. Add the running time and likely interval to estimate when you will leave the theatre.

Plan the route and seats together

Check the theatre address and transport route before selecting a performance. When choosing seats, consider the view, stairs, access needs and whether your group wants to sit together in one row.

Build a little flexibility into the day. A calm arrival gives families time to find the correct entrance, use venue facilities and settle into their seats before the performance starts.

  • Leave extra time for busy central London journeys.
  • Keep snacks and drinks within the venue rules.
  • Save the confirmation where it can be opened without delay.
