How to choose London theatre tickets

The best ticket is not always the cheapest or the closest to the stage. Start with the experience you want, then compare dates, seats and the complete price before you book.

1. Choose the kind of experience you want

A long-running musical can be a dependable choice for a first West End visit, while a limited-run play may suit someone looking for a particular production. Family shows often have earlier performances and specific age guidance. Start with the musical and play categories, then compare the details that matter to your group.

2. Compare performance dates before seat prices

Ticket prices can vary by day, performance time and demand. Midweek performances and matinees may offer a wider choice of starting prices, but this is not guaranteed. Use the calendar on each event page and compare more than one performance if your plans are flexible.

3. Think about the view, not just the row number

London theatres vary considerably in shape and scale. A seat farther back in a compact venue can feel closer than the same row number in a large theatre. Check seat notes carefully, especially for restricted views, limited legroom or access by stairs.

4. Check practical information for the whole group

Review the running time, interval information, age guidance and venue address before payment. If someone in your party has access requirements, confirm the venue facilities and the suitability of the selected seats before completing the booking.

5. Review the complete booking

Before you pay, check the production, date, start time, number of tickets and seat selection one final time. Read the cancellation terms and confirm the total price shown at checkout.
